Simms International supports PizzaExpress with new memory for EPOS upgrades
Inspired by a love of real Italian pizza, PizzaExpress has been pioneering the art of delicious handmade pizza since 1965. PizzaExpress is one of the leading casual dining operators in the UK & Ireland, with over 490 current sites. The company also has a growing presence internationally with over 100 restaurants trading in 14 different territories.
PizzaExpress was upgrading its end-of-life, legacy EPOS solution in the UK to Zonal’s Aztec POS software. At the same time the company also wished to extend the life of existing Toshiba till hardware devices in all restaurants. In order to facilitate the EPOS software rollout and optimise investment in their existing Toshiba hardware, PizzaExpress needed to upgrade DRAM in the tills to 2GB per device (the maximum that the legacy hardware could support).
A key benefit of the Zonal Aztec POS solution is an iOS-based, handheld ordering system. However, unless PizzaExpress could upgrade the till hardware and reduce the number of fixed tills used, it was not going to be able to rollout the handheld ordering devices across its entire estate.
PizzaExpress had already tried a number of memory brands but these solutions simply did not work in their till systems. After an exhaustive search, reseller CDW introduced PizzaExpress to memory and storage experts, Simms International.
Following technical discussions with PizzaExpress, facilitated by CDW, Simms presented a viable solution. Based on a thorough understanding of the end user’s requirements and taking into account the capabilities and limitations of current systems, Simms identified the root cause of the issue and sourced replacement memory in the form of world-class vendor/manufacturer Innodisk’s DDR2 DRAM. Samples were provided for extensive testing and configuration.
Results & benefits
After working samples were provided and vigorously tested Innodisk manufactured and supplied the DRAM on time and on budget. PizzaExpress was then able to launch into an aggressive rollout stage and as part of the EPOS upgrade project. The company’s EPOS software partner managed the refurbishment and upgrade of the till hardware, installing the new DDR2 as part of the swap EPOS implementation.
