S.M.A.R.T. (also written as SMART) stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology.

What is S.M.A.R.T. ?

S.M.A.R.T. is a monitoring system supported by Hard Disk Drives (HDD’s) and Solid State Drives (SSD’s).

How does S.M.A.R.T. work ?

S.M.A.R.T. works by detecting and reporting on various indicators of temperature, storage capacity, block status reliability and expected lifespan. This is done by using standardised communication protocols between a device and a host computer S.M.A.R.T. is able to anticipate hardware failures.
